2012: February 28-29;  July 24-25

Colorado Bar Exam Format

The Colorado Bar Examination consists of three parts:  1) The Multistate Bar Exam; 2) the Colorado Essay Exam; and 3) the performance test.  On the first day, nine essay questions and two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) questions are administered. On the second day, the MBE is administered. 

Colorado Bar Exam Scoring Information

To pass the Colorado Bar Exam, an applicant must score 276 scale points (of a possible 400).  The formula for determining the total bar exam score is MBE Scale Score + (Essay Scale Score + PT Scale Score) = Colorado Bar Exam Score .

Colorado Bar - MPRE Requirements
In addition to successfully passing the Colorado Bar Exam, an applicant must attain a scaled score of 85 on the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam  The MPRE must be taken within two years of application.  Click here for more information about AmeriBar's Free Online MPRE Review Course.

Colorado Bar Exam MBE Reciprocity
The Colorado Bar does not recognize past MBE scores.  You must take the MBE when you sit for the Colorado Bar Exam.
Colorado Bar Reciprocity (no need to take Colorado Bar Exam)
The Colorado Bar permits reciprocity in limited circumstances:  Applicant must be 1) a graduate of an ABA accredited law school, 2) must be admitted in a state which allows Colorado attorneys to be admitted on motion, 3) must have actively practiced in that state, and 4) must have practiced law for 5 of 7 years immediately preceding application.
